🌿 Heartfelt Gratitude to The Straits Times for Shedding Light on Endometriosis 🌿

A profound thank you to Ms. Stephanie Yeo, Senior Correspondent at The Straits Times, for shining a much-needed light on Endometriosis, a disease that remains one of the most neglected global health crises despite affecting millions of individuals across all demographics.

Your commitment to raising awareness through meaningful journalism is invaluable. For those of us who have lived through the pain, delays in diagnosis, emotional toll, and systemic gaps in healthcare, this feature is more than just an article. It’s a lifeline of awareness and validation for many who are still suffering in silence.

To Mr. Mark Cheong, the incredibly talented photojournalist, thank you for vividly capturing the essence of this battle. Your images tell a story beyond words—one of resilience, advocacy, and the urgent need for change.

🟡 Why Does This Matter?

Endometriosis is not just a bad period. It can take up to 10 years and visits to multiple doctors before a proper diagnosis. The symptoms—debilitating period pain, chronic fatigue, infertility struggles, painful bowel movements, and pelvic inflammation—are often mistaken for other conditions, delaying treatment and worsening outcomes.

The absence of a cure for Endometriosis is not due to scientific impossibility but rather due to institutional apathy, insufficient funding, and an archaic understanding of reproductive health. Until this is addressed, millions will continue to suffer in silence, isolation, and unnecessary pain.

Awareness through credible journalism, impactful storytelling, and striking visuals bring visibility, advocacy, and hope. It helps women understand that their pain is real, valid, and deserving medical attention. It educates healthcare professionals and policymakers about why early diagnosis, treatment accessibility, and comprehensive care must be prioritised.
